How to Host a Table

KIRRIBILLI HOUSE

Q. What do Kirribilli House, Pocket Bar, the Columbian Hotel and Arq Nightclub have in Common?

A. On 18th March 2010 the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia honoured the Table4Ten Committee for all its hard work in fundraising and raising awareness about prostate cancer in Australia.

Members of the Committee were invited to a sunset cocktail reception at Kirribilli House, the Prime Minister’s residence, on the Sydney Harbour foreshore. As the sun dipped over the Harbour, with the Opera House as a backdrop, Tony Sonneveld OAM, Chairman of the NSW Board of PCFA, called the representitives of the committee to the stage to present them with a special plaque to recognise the effort of the entire Table4Ten team. It was a hugely memorable evening – many Australians don’t get the opportunity to visit the Prime Minister’s Sydney residence.

We heard that K. Rudd’s toothpaste allegedly went mysteriously missing during the course of the evening. While this did not seem to cause a stir with the security contingent from the Australian Federal Police, it may have been an inconvenience for our first minister the following morning!

Afterwards the team, with plaque in hand, ventured to the Pocket Bar in East Sydney to celebrate in true Table4Ten fashion with a few Lychee Martinis. After Pocket Bar, the evening progressed a block up the road to the Columbian Hotel again with prime ministerial plaque in tow. The final stop in the sojourn was a visit to Arq nightclub to say hello to one of Australia’s and Table4Ten’s top DJ’s, Alex Taylor (see Alex’s profile on page 85). Many of you know Alex – he is one of Australia’s top DJs, and donated his time to our After Parties in 2008 and 2009. The team were allowed entry on the night, however unfortunately the plaque was not. Its resting place became the cloakroom at one of Australia’s leading nightclubs.Such is the journey of life - from the hallowed and historical halls of Kirribilli House to the cloakroom at Arq - one well travelled plaque... and yet one missing ministerial mini tube of toothpaste - very Sydney!
